CAIRO: Amr Zaki came on as a second-half substitute for the third successive match as Hull City caused a major upset and beat Manchester City 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday. Hull coach Phil Brown picked a strike partnership of Jozy Altidore and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink as Egyptian striker Zaki, who joined from Zamalek on loan until the end of the season, started on the bench. Altidore combined well with Dutchman Vennegoor of Hesselink to open the scoring on 31 minutes. Vennegoor of Hesselink laid off the ball to the American striker on the edge of the area to send a curling shot past City keeper Shay Given. George Boateng doubled the lead on 54 minutes with a stunning volley after capitalizing on a poor defensive clearance. Togolese striker Adebayor pulled one back five minutes later after a goal-mouth scramble but City could not find the equalizer. Zaki was introduced instead of Altidore on 65 minutes, a time when Hull began to defend in numbers to maintain their one-goal advantage. The Bulldozer had a decent opportunity nine minutes from time when he gathered the ball on the left flank and cut inside with the hope of scoring his first Premier League goal this season. However, his weak shot was easily collected by Irish keeper Given. The victory lifts Hull, who started the day in the relegation zone, to 14th place with 24 points.
