Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 10 - 2009

CAIRO: UAE, Germany, and Brazil qualified to the quarter finals of the U-20 World Cup to complete the eight teams who will be competing for the title.
Brazil crashed a difficult Uruguayan side 3-1 after giving Port Said fans a talent show with three marvelous goals from Alex Teixeira and Alan Kardec while Jonathan Urretaviscaya scored Uruguay s only goal.
Despite their attempts to prevent Brazilian team from scoring early, Uruguayan defense could only hang on for 20 minutes before Alana Kardec scored his team s first in a quick counter attack.
Two minutes later, Teixeira scored the second and the third in the 24th and 31st minutes with a fascinating individual talent display, dribbling then putting the ball in the left corner of the net.
Uruguay responded after the Brazilian keeper couldn t handle a shot to find Jonathan Urretaviscaya burying it in the net in the 36th minute. But it wasn t enough for his team as they bid farewell to the tournament.
With this win, Brazil declared themselves the main favorites for the title.
In Suez, UAE bounced back from Jose Rondon s goal in the 12th minute to beat Venezuela 2-1 thanks to goals by Mohamed Ahmed and Ahmed Khalil to book their place in the quarter finals.
UAE equalized from a free kick which Ahmed turned with his head into the goal; with both sides trying to score a second goal, Khalil snatched the victory for the gulf representatives, using a land cross to end Venezuela s campaign.
On the other hand, Bjorn Kopplin carried Germany to the quarter finals through his brace to help his side beat an ambitious Nigeria 3-2 and tipping himself as one of the tournament s stars.
Nigeria began scoring through Danny Uchechi in the 51st minute; Kopplin responded only one minute later through an individual effort from the left side that saw his slow shot in the net.
Rabiou Ibrahim scored the second for Nigeria in the 68th minute following a red card for Germany s Tobias Kempe.
With time against them, 10-man Germany bounced back through substitute Mario Vrancic in the 75th minute. As everyone was getting ready for extra time, Kopplin pressured Nigerian defenders, snatched the ball from midfield and dribbled through one defender before aiming the ball in the lower left corner of the net.
The three winners join Italy, Hungary, South Korea, Ghana, Costa Rica, in the quarter finals.
Surprise results at the round of 16 ended up with favorites Spain, hosts Egypt and Paraguay out of the tournament.
Ghana plays against Korea, and Italy goes head to head against Hungary today in Mubarak Stadium in Suez.
Saturday witnesses the Germany-Brazil clash for a semi final ticket while UAE takes on Costa Rica in Cairo stadium.
