CAIRO: Director Youssef Chahine is receiving emergency medical treatment in the Armed Forces Hospital in Maadi, Brigadier General Doctor Ahmed Abdel Halim, director of the Armed Forces Hospital, told a press conference Thursday. "Mr Chahine has been in a coma since he arrived to the hospital Wednesday and what we are doing now is trying to keep his vital organs functioning, he added. "This kind of coma is difficult to be medically treated, but Mr Chahine's condition is stable, Abdel Halim said, asserting that "he is not clinically dead. Abdel Halim's information was based on a medical report he received from the French hospital where Chahine was admitted. "Mr Chahine's health condition has not improved since June 14, 2008 when he was rushed to France for medical treatment, Abdel Halim added. Chahine was flown to Paris after suffering a brain hemorrhage in mid-June. He then fell into a coma but reports indicated that he woke up earlier this month. Doctors at the hospital in France, where Chahine received medical treatment for one month, officially informed his family on July 16 that there was nothing more to be done and that his condition was critical, Abdel Halim said.
