OstazOnline: a solution to the problem of private tuition
Published in Daily News Egypt on 16 - 02 - 2007

Over 2,000 students are currently learning via this powerful alternative to personal tutoring
CAIRO: OstazOnline is an e-learning service for students from K4 to K12 studying the Egyptian curriculum. OstazOnline has adopted state-of-the-art technology to provide the educational system in Egypt with a new tool to enhance education.
This project is considered a step towards a better educational process; providing students with a top quality education, and the educational system with an unprecedented solution to the in-person tutoring problem that have burdened Egyptian families for years.
Students of the Egyptian curriculum are provided with all the learning materials for all subjects and all stages in Arabic and English.
It works in a straight-forward and effective manner: There is a fixed schedule for each class, students log in each day to a tutoring session (1 1/2 hrs for primary; 2 hrs for preparatory/secondary) where they see on their computer screens a live image of the teacher s writing on the whiteboard, as well as hearing the teacher speak and explain the subject at hand.
Students can raise their hand to ask a question by clicking a particular button on the interface, after which the teacher calls upon them and answers their question accordingly. All students need to complete a quiz at the end of every daily session to ensure that they ve paid attention and absorbed the day s materials. Also there is a monthly online exam to evaluate the student performance.
Parents are able to monitor their children's scores and attendance and take a proactive approach to the education that their children receive.
OstazOnline also offers a call center that is open six days a week and is available to answer all questions or concerns regarding the service, your child or how to get involved.
Subscription is either on a monthly or term basis to give parents the chance to evaluate the service without a long term commitment. Parents can subscribe by calling 19719 and the company can have some one sent to their homes to collect the fee.
"Education plays a vital role in developing human resources of any country. OstazOnline offers a powerful alternative to in-person tutoring, stated Ihab El Agroudy OstazOnLine General Manager. "We wanted to create an educational plan that incorporates all students' needs.
Our service is very convenient, providing the students the privacy and comfort of their own home, without the need to travel to and from an in-person tutor. OstazOnline also provides top-notch teachers which are hand selected to provide unbeatable educational quality. The service provides value to parents, [as much as] 60 percent cost savings [when compared with] in-person tutoring, said El Agroudy.
