The sizzling summer screen
Published in Daily News Egypt on 29 - 07 - 2006

CAIRO: Dandy Mega Mall has created the perfect outing combining both the summer's fresh air with the season's latest blockbuster: the Dandy summer movie theatre.
Open-air theatres are not a new concept to Cairo, but located on the Cairo-Alexandria highway (right before the toll station) this venue is far from the pollution and noise of the city. The theatre is designed for comfortable classy seating. The cushioned chairs let you sit back and enjoy every minute of the movie, a far cry from the backbreaking plastic chairs commonly found in open-air cinemas around the country. And, the cleanliness of the theatre is noticeable as workers are absolutely meticulous about keeping anything off the floor and the chairs.
We recommend that you take a light sweater with you because the weather can get a bit chilly late at night.
If you're the kind of movie-goer that enjoys munching during the film, then make a stop a the theatre's coffee shop. It offers a variety of hot and cold beverages, and a number of snacks. And, for those with a sweet tooth, try the cotton candy.
The movie theatre has three showings every night. The first starts at 9:00 p.m. with the movie "Halim, based on the life legendary Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez acted out by late actor Ahmed Zaki and his son Haitham Zaki. The second showing starts at 12:00 a.m. with "Yacoubian Building, based on the bestselling novel by Alaa El Aswani, followed by another screening of "Halim at 3:45 a.m.
Entrance tickets are sold for LE 25 per person (only a few pounds more than the average indoor cinema).
The movie theater is exclusively open during the summer months and until October, when its starts getting too cold for open air venues.
