CAIRO: Nationalist currents are calling on the government to freeze the Camp David peace treaty, stop exporting gas to Israel, as well as follow in the Venezuelan government's steps and expel the Israeli ambassador from Egypt. An official statement was released and singed by members of different political parties, calling for a stand against the Israeli assaults on Gaza. Signatures on the statement included those of Mohamed Mahdi Akef, supreme guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Moustafa Bakry, member of the People's Assembly (PA), Madgy Ahmed Hussein, secretary general of the Labor party, Mohamed Samir Alish member of Tagammu party, and Gamal Zahran, independent PA member among other opposition members. The statement called on the government to implement an Administrative Court verdict that bans the exportation of gas "to the Zionist enemy. It also urged the government to loosen its grip on the public protests against Israel's ongoing attacks on the Gaza Strip. "The events in Gaza represent a clear and direct threat to the Egyptian and Arab security, the statement read, stating that "defending the Palestinian opposition force is crucial to the Arab, Islamic and Egyptian communities. "We ask that all procedures be taken to cut all diplomatic, political economic and cultural ties with the Zionist bloc . and help lift the blockade on our brothers in Gaza by opening the Rafah borders and allowing all the food and medical aid to get through, the statement read.
