CAIRO: President Hosni Mubarak's eldest grandson, Mohamed, passed away Monday night after suffering severe health complications for two days, according to an official statement made on state-run television. Twelve-year-old Mohamed, the son of Mubarak's eldest son Alaa, was transferred for treatment to a hospital in Paris, France where he passed away Monday night. The official announcement, as well as news reports, did not give any details regarding the cause of death. However, there have been rumors and speculations circulating, including brain aneurysm. First Lady Suzanne Mubarak cancelled a trip to London earlier this week, where she was to be honored at the British Royal Society of Medicine, to be with her grandson. The body returned to Cairo on Tuesday morning and the funeral took place at the Al-Rashdan Mosque of the Armed Forces in the afternoon. Since the announcement was made, terrestrial television has gone into mourning by suspending its programs and airing religious songs instead which, according to AP, is "a tradition when top government figures die. In addition, a number of private satellite channels have followed suit, airing Quran recitals. Dream 1 and 2, Al-Hayat 1 and 2, Al-Mehwar channel, and reportedly OTV are among these channels President Mubarak has another grandson, six-year-old Omar Alaa Mubarak.
