SHEIKH JARRAH, East Jerusalem: At 8 pm last night, Nasser al-Ghawi, patriarch and evicted resident, was arrested in his protest tent in Sheikh Jarrah. Nasser was arrested this evening and is being held at the Shalem police station in the Old City. Around 7 pm the settlers exited the Al-Ghawi home and approached the Palestinians across the street. The settlers then began taking pictures in the faces of the Palestinians present. A confrontation broke out after the Settlers refused to return the occupied Al-Ghawi house. The police came after being phoned by the settlers. The settlers claimed that the Palestinians were throwing stones at their home. It seems that Nasser was arrested without reason. One hour later the police returned and arrested two youth, of the Sabak and Tahar families. The youth were from the neighborhood of Wadi-Joz. Nasser Al-Ghawi’s family of 52 was evicted from their home in August 2009 by Zionist settlers. The settlers used allegedly-forged land claims from the Ottoman era. Nasser erected a protest tent opposite his occupied home after his family was evicted. He has lived in this tent on the street adjacent his home since the eviction. “The boys who were arrested had nothing to do with the altercation. They were arrested down the street away from the neighborhood. The arrest appeared completely random,†said Bridget Chapell. ISM/BM
