According to police in Houston, Texas, shots were fired at the city's international airport on Thursday later afternoon. Police said that the man who opened fire died from self-inflicting injuries, breaking news reports coming out of Houston this afternoon reported. Houston police told Houston's KHOU TV the incident occurred around 2:30 PM local time at a security checkpoint area in Terminal B. A man walked in and fired two shots in the air, according to local reports. Police said an air marshal fired at the suspect, but missed. That's when the man pulled out a gun and shot himself, according to the Associated Press report on the incident. As of 3:10 PM, the Federal Aviation Administration had issued a "ground stop" for flights bound for Houston Bush Intercontinental, citing "security" as the reason. Flights leaving out of Houston would be unaffected and flights already in the air for Houston Bush typically would land as scheduled under normal ground-stop procedures. Passengers in Terminal B, however, were being re-screened by security personnel, according to MyFoxHouston. Terminal B hosts mostly regional flights on United's United Express partners. If the duration of the ground stop is short, overall flight disruptions at the airport likely would be minimal. Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport officials tells MyFoxHouston that flight traffic there was operating as normal as of 3:20 PM. BN
