Egypt sees massive fiber deployment
Published in Bikya Masr on 26 - 02 - 2013

Responding to increasing rate of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments by telecommunications companies in Egypt, Reichle & De-Massari (R&M) Middle East, Turkey and Africa, the Swiss structured cabling specialist, announced it would further increase its focus on Egypt's growing market.
Alfred Tharwat, Area Sales Manager, Africa at R&M confirmed that the company is collaborating with major telecom providers in Egypt and is currently involved in the new FTTH projects in North Coast and Sokhna city.
The company has also recently been awarded Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) projects in New Cairo and 6th of October city.
Tharwat stated in a press release from the company that the company is on the verge of launching new products to further expand its FTTx portfolio. These will include the introduction of the new Venus FXXL solution with an integrated Single Circuit Management (SCM) system and field connectors which offer un-matched flexibility when planning building connections.
“Telcos in Egypt are now focusing on the roll out of next-generation networks to meet the huge demand for converged IP-based voice, data and entertainment services. The FTTH market in the country is growing at a rate that far surpasses that of several other countries in the region," said Tharwat.
“While Telcos in Egypt have an advantage in that they are not faced with costly upgrades of legacy networks, the new FTTH deployments present unique challenges and risks. We have successfully implemented a number of high-profile networking projects for customers including ABB Egypt, Hyper One chain of hypermarkets, and Technical University of Berlin in El Gouna and because of our well-established local presense, we are in touch with the needs of the local market. By supplementing this local expertise with the extensive experience we have gained from similar projects in Europe and Asia, we can assist Egyptian telecom operators, consultants and real estate developers during each critical phase of their FTTH deployments," he added.
Fiber has become a necessity and operators are paying due consideration to the future-proofing of these deployments. R&M offers an extensive FTTH portfolio which includes products like Optical Distribution Frame (ODF), splice closures, street cabinet, BEP wall mount solutions for building connectivity, fiber optic outlet and smart home cabinets.
