LAGOS: Mobile phone developer and manufacturer Itel has announced it was looking to be a leader in tackling mobile phone counterfeiting in Nigeria this year. The move is part of the company's efforts to ensure that all users have a phone and that it is an appropriate device. The company made the announcement of the strategy at a forum for dealers of its phones in Lagos. Itel general manager Andy Yan said “Itel would roll out new sales promotions in 2013 and address the issue of fakes in order to further build the confidence that dealers have in the brand." Looking forward, he said Itel “will take advantage of smartphones and feature phones, as well as its third generation feature phones, to enhance its business in Nigeria." He also promised that Itel “would carry out research to come up with more innovative products for Nigerian consumers." Yan added that his company would continue “to leverage on its wide network of service centers across the country." Itel sales manager Shyamol Saha added in a statement that the company “would endeavor to be part of the phenomenal growth in mobiles expected in Nigeria this year." Itel believes that Nigeria is the ideal market for more choice and devices on the market and believes their entrance will help continue to push the sector forward. BN
