LAGOS: China's Huawei Technologies has announced it will begin introducing a series of mobile phone devices into the Nigerian market in the near future after inking a deal with the government that has investors and users excited about the company's appearance in Nigeria. The world's largest telecom service provider, Huawei has already increased its footprint in Africa immensely in recent years, dominating the USB Internet market in North Africa. The company hopes the move into Nigeria, the continent's largest mobile market, will boost it even further in Africa. “One has to stay optimistic with Huawei's introduction into the country because it means that more and more users will have access to mobile phone devices and data plans,” began Howard Shult, a German telecom analyst and researcher in Nigeria. “Nigeria has so many opportunities and Huawei can really develop its products in the market that create more modes for users in rural areas to get online through mobile devices.” The company says its market survey has discovered “a Nigeria with rich, untapped mobile market, begging to be explored.” As a way of grabbing its own share of the pie, the company rolled out an array of 7 Qwerty plus touch android based smart phones hoping that they “would delight Nigerians.” BM
