ADDIS ABABA: The United States Special Advisor for Children's Issues Susan Jacobs is currently visiting Ethiopia to look at means and methods to boost children's rights in the country. According to a statement from her office, she will be meeting with Ethiopian government officials “to discuss intercountry adoptions and the implementation of the Pre-Adoption Immigration Review (PAIR) program.” She is also scheduled during her weeklong visit to the East African country that will end on December 13, to meet “with non-government organizations to discuss the importance of standards of practice to protect children and families.” The visit comes as Ethiopia is looking to boost efforts to ensure the security and health as well as labor issues pertaining to children meet international standards. The country has been criticized for not abiding by international agreements on children's rights and labor regulations.
