KUALA LUMPUR: The family of a 16-year-old rape victim in northern Malaysia last week attacked the suspected attacker and threw acid on the man's genitals.
Police said that the 18-year-old suspect had been released from custody on Wednesday on bail and had been followed by the family who then threw the acid on the man as a reprisal for the rape of their 16-year-old relative.
The relatives of the victim are said to have beaten up the youth and splashed acid on the suspect's genitals, police confirmed to Bikyamasr.com on Saturday.
George Town Deputy OCPD Supt Ismail Toh Paduka Idris said five relatives of the girl had been detained to help in investigations.
The schoolgirl was said to have been on her first date when she was allegedly raped in the toilet of a shopping complex. The girl had met the attacker via the social networking site Facebook.
The rape victim did not lodge a police report immediately after the incident, which allegedly occurred last week.
She only lodge a report on Tuesday, which led to the youth's arrest the following day.
Supt Ismail said the suspect is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape while the victim's relatives are being investigated under Section 324 for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
The youth has been warded at a hospital here and his condition is reportedly stable.
Ismail urged the public not to take the law into their own hands.
