KUALA LUMPUR: An Arab man died after in what local police are saying was a “freak” parasailing accident in the popular tourist destination of Langkawi on Wednesday. Harian Metro reported that Al Ghamdi Fahed Nasser, 22, was on holiday with his family at Pantai Tengah on Wednesday when the accident cost him his life. The report did not say which country the man was from. Langkawi OCPD Supt Harrith Kam said initial investigations found that the victim, could not “take off” while parasailing due to his weight. Police said the man weighed over 155 kilograms. “He had tried to get airborne several times. On the final attempt, the parachute failed to lift him and he fell to the beach before having breathing difficulties. “The victim was sent to the Langkawi Hospital at 8pm before doctors pronounced him dead at 12.55am,” said Harrith. It is the second report of tourists' deaths in as many days, after a helicopter crashed in Malaysia's Sarawak state in Borneo on Friday morning, leaving at least one person dead. The German pilot survived the accident, and two others are still missing, police said.
