KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia police have said that foreigners are responsible for the ATM thefts in the Klang Valley last month. Kuala Lumpur deputy CID chief ACP Khairi Ahrasa said that investigations appear to point to foreigners involved in the stealings. “This is based on footage of closed circuit television at the ATMs. The police are trying to identify the suspects," he told reporters at Police Day celebration at Jinjang police station in Sentul on Saturday. The celebration to mark the 205th anniversary of Royal Malaysian Police was launched by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohmad Salleh. On May 25, an ATM with RM200,000 was stolen from a shopping mall in Balakong, Seri Kembangan. The next day, an ATM at the University Light Rail Transit (LRT) station was stolen, incurring losses of over RM61,000. On May 28, thieves failed to steal the ATM at a hypermarket in Pantai Dalam after the alarm went off. The police chief, however, did not give specifics as to who the foreigners were, where they were from or if they had any suspects in the case.
