LAGOS: The Nigerian ministry of communications and the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that it is to bolster security around the country's telecom towers in an effort to ensure that future attacks can be thwarted. It comes after last month saw telecom towers in the country attacked by militants who the government said they were attempting to disrupt services to anger residents in the country. But this week, the NCC and the ministry are looking to ensure that no future attacks will be seen, to bolster services and connectivity among users. It also said the telecommunications operators in the country must also use caution when erecting new towers across the country. For the government, the attacks on the towers were seen as national security threats and aimed at disrupting communications in the country. Residents here in Nigeria said they experience small outages, but hope the operators will take care in creating a safe environment for telecom services across Nigeria. The bolstering of security around the towers is also part of NCC's push to get operators to offer better customer services, which they say is affecting the growth of the sector. The operators have been warned that if they cannot improve customer relations, action could be taken against them.
