The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has called on Nigerian Telecom subscribers to report complaints directly to the commission if the operator refuses to meet the customers' demands. It comes as the country continues to bolster its mobile market to push it into line with international standards. Nigeria Telecom has been under threat for some time in meeting the demands and frustrations of its customers and Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC Eugene Juwah said that the commission would take a direct role in improving services for Nigerians. Juwah's comments came as he spoke at the Telecom Consumer Parliament hosted by the NCC in Lagos. He told the audience that the reason for the commission's role in the telecom company was to improve services that were much needed. “Because the customer is king, we at NCC will always ensure that you get value for whatever services you are paying for,” he said. In recent weeks, Nigerians have been complaining about customer services levels at Nigerian telecommunications companies and have singled out Nigerian Telecom as a major thorn. “While celebrating the consumers we should be mindful of their interests that we are all supposed to protect,” he said, referencing March 15 as Consumer Rights Day. “Consumer interests cover the rights, privileges and obligations, which should be given priority attention by the stakeholders,” he added.
