BANGKOK: The United States Embassy in Manila on Friday warned American citizens of the potential of a terrorist attack in Pasay City in the Philippines' capital region of Metro Manila. The embassy said in an “emergency message” it issued that a threat against American citizens in Metro Manila has been detected by reliable security forces. In response to the threat, US Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. ordered the increase in security personnel in US government facilities in Manila. “The Embassy urges American citizens at this time to exercise extreme caution in their daily routine and to maintain extra awareness regarding their own security,” the message read. The warning was issued following the rise of anti-U.S. sentiments in some parts of the world due to the recent release of anti-Islam film “Innocence of Muslims”. Four Americans including US Ambassador Christopher Stevens were killed after extremists attacked the US embassy in Benghazi, Libya.
