BANGKOK: After protesters headed to the US Embassy in Bangkok this week to voice their anger at an anti-Islam film made in the United States, the American Ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kenny said that her country does not support the insulting of religion. She said that the film, “Innocence of Muslims,” which insults Islam and Prophet Mohamed had nothing to do with the US government and urged protesters to not direct their anger at American buildings. She added that she was not worried about violence in the country, stressing that “Thailand and the US have had a long sound relationship.” Kenny told reporters on Wednesday that the United States does “not support any movements that insult other religions,” which she believes would help to prevent the conflict between Muslims and the US from escalating further. Kenny said she is “confident that the situation should improve soon,” Thai News Agency reported. The ambassador further noted that a warning against travelling to Thailand for US citizens would not be needed because the Thai government has prepared plans for security for Americans and other foreign tourists.
