Malaysia women angered at “unfaithful” ranking
Published in Bikya Masr on 28 - 08 - 2012

KUALA LUMPUR: Women in Malaysia are angry. The reason is a recent survey that positioned Malaysian women among the most unfaithful in the world by condom maker Durex.
“I am just shocked at this stupid study because I don't know any women who have cheated on their husbands,” said housewife Umniah Abdul Jamil. She told Bikyamasr.com that “there is certainly a lot of time for that kind of activity, but I just don't believe it.”
According to the study, Malaysian women are the third most unfaithful women in the world. 39 percent of Malaysian women reportedly confessed to cheating on their partners, the report said.
“It isn't fair,” continued Abdul Jamil. “I mean, who were the people they were talking to about their sex life? Because it doesn't fit with what we women in the country know and believe.”
But psychologist Thomas Aziz agreed with the study, saying women in the country come to him on a regular basis complaining about their spouses and have admitted to cheating.
“I don't know any figures, so I can't comment on that, but to say that Malaysian women aren't interested in having a good sex life and that cheating isn't about of that, then that would be wrong,” he told Bikyamasr.com.
Ghana (62 percent) and Thailand (59 percent) women topped the list as the most unfaithful in the world based on the study of 36 countries.
But women in Malaysia are frustrated over the report, although a few did say they believe it.
“I have no doubt that the number is right,” said one university student, who told Bikyamasr.com that she has repeatedly cheated on her boyfriend. “It's just a fling and it's not serious, but I know so many women here that do the same thing.”
She added that maybe it's “a younger generation thing.”
Either way, the report has sparked a debate over relationships in the country and it is unlikely to end in the near future.
