KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia government wants its local filmmakers to develop alliances and joint ventures with international production houses in order to boost the cinema industry in the country. Deputy Information, Communications and Culture Minister Dennis D-Cruz said that Malaysia would see massive growth if local producers would develop deals with other countries such as China, Japan, India, the United States and European countries. “Local filmmakers should not focus only on local audience, but think out of the box by producing movies in various languages such as English, Japanese and Tamil for global market,” he told reporters after presiding over the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Just Work Entertainment Inc. and New Age Studios Sdn Bhd in Kota Damansara on Wednesday. The MoU entails uncovering local talents for locally produced Chinese movies for foreign market, Bernama news agency reported. D'Cruz said if local movies were “well-received overseas, the local film industry would be very lucrative besides bringing glory to the country.”
