KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is promoting new Miss Malaysia Tourism 20-year-old and part-time teacher Jun Yong Wan Jun as a “regular” citizen. The young woman beat out 16 other finalists to be named Miss Malaysia Tourism 2012 and has praised her new role as an ambassador for the country. “I am so happy," Yong told reporters after her victory. “Too happy, maybe! I just didn't expect it. I'm really grateful, and so thankful to everyone who supported me." Yong, from George Town, Penang, also walked away with four other subsidiary titles, namely Miss Loving Heart, Miss MRCA Radiant, Miss Beverly Hills Personality and Best in Talent. Yong will represent Malaysia in the Miss Tourism International pageant which will be held on Dec 31 in Malaysia. The information ministry has already begun its PR campaign, claiming Yong is a “regular” citizen for “all Malaysia” in an effort to show the country the importance of such pageants. It comes on the heels of controversy in the region over women's pageants and the idea of beauty.
