KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia' King Abdul Halim on Saturday launched a three-day charity carnival event organized by the Sultanah Bahiyah Foundation at Darul Aman Stadium in the country. The “Karnival Amal Hari Penyayang 2012″ is an annual fund-raising event, which also “incorporates a free mobile health screening program for the rural poor,” the Bernama news agency reported. The king was reportedly greeted upon arrival at the stadium by the Kedah Council of Regency members led by its chairman, Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak. Malaysians, despite the monarchy having largely a ceremonial position in the country, love their royalty and large celebrations are had in their name. Tuanku Abdul Halim, accompanied by members of the Kedah Council of Regency, YSB chairman Tunku Panglima Besar of Kedah Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, who is the daughter of Tuanku Abdul Halim, and Azizan then toured the various programs held at the carnival, the report said.
