CAIRO: Former presidential hopeful, and former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the co-founder of Al Thawra Party, Dr. Mohammed ElBaradei, said that the election of the president under the current constitutional declaration issued by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) is a continuation of the of the election of imperfect authorities and powers. ElBaradei tweeted on his Twitter account on Monday, that there are substantial gaps if the president of the republic is elected under the constitutional declaration, including for example, as he states: Who will have the power to declare war? And who will be the commander of SCAF? ElBaradei confirmed, Sunday, the importance of not underestimating the constitution, and it came after prior statements by Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, the head of SCAF, where he stressed the need to speed up the writing of the constitution ahead of the handover of power on June 30. ElBaradei explained in his tweet that, the Constitution of 1954 had been drafted in 18 months, and the military junta now calls for drafting the constitution of the revolution in one month. “Do not underestimate the importance of the constitution, Egypt deserves better than this,” he added.
