LAGOS: The Co-Founder of SoftTribe and BSL Africa, Herman Chinery–Hesse, has disclosed that Internet businesses need trust to survive in the telecommunication sector. He made this statement yesterday during a presentation titled “Managing An Online Business in Ghana: Challenges and Prospects” at a conference in Accra. According to him, relationship building was one of the important ingredients in the establishment of an online business. The theme of the conference was: “Connecting Business with Innovative Ideas”. The aim of this annual event is to grow the business of technology, to build a respected and strong platform for the technology industry in Ghana and Africa. It brings together all industry practitioners and stakeholders to guide and shape the future of the online industry in Africa. Dishonesty and disloyalty affected the growth and development of most businesses in the world especially Africa, Chinery-Hesse revealed. He also talked about the discouragement syndrome from friends, relatives and the society as one of the greatest challenge. Chinery-Hesse however, called on small and medium enterprises to venture into the online business. Topics like software development, Internet connectivity: foundation for viable online industry, the future of Ghana's telecommunication industry to national development were also discussed at the conference.
