CAIRO: 40 revolutionary movements and coalitions announced on Sunday, following the official announcement of the former Intelligence Director and former Vice President Omar Suleiman`s presidential bid, its intention to complete the revolution, and vowed to protect it by all means. They also declared its willingness to face all the forces that aimed at aborting the revolution or a coup or containing it or the reproduction of the former regime, or to impose hegemony on the people or to lure the country into a state of chaos, or transform the revolution into the military coup. The movements and coalitions confirmed their rejection and its resistance to any attempt to nominate any of the remnants of Mubarak`s regime for presidential elections, as they were complacent in heinous crimes against the people over the past decades and during the revolution, and stressed that they should be brought to a trial for these crimes as they held senior official positions during the revolution. They were referring to Omar Suleiman, and the former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, who also announced his presidential bid earlier. The statement of the movements confirmed the need to fulfill eight goals in order to protect the revolution: 1- The election of a civilian president with a vision and an ability and team to bear the burdens of the next phase and does not belong to the former regime in any way, and prevent the former regime figures from presidential candidacy and from exercising their political rights. 2- To mandate the parliament to obtain its powers and exercise its powers and achieve the goals of the revolution. 3- The two houses of parliament to conduct a constructive dialogue in order to agree on the re-selection of the Constituent Assembly to draft up a constitution, and to include the membership of all the segments of the society and all sects to pave the way for a powerful Egypt. 4- The re-structuring of the Ministry of the Interior to ensure security within the framework of the principle of the rule of law and forcing it to declare a clear security plan for the elimination of security chaos and bullying without prejudice to the freedom and dignity of citizens. 5- Speedy trials for the figures of the former regime and its cronies for the massacres committed against the rebels, especially the massacre of Port Said. 6 -The parliament to amend Article 28 of the Constitutional Declaration in order to guarantee challenging and appealing the decisions of the Higher Presidential Elections Committee, to supervise the presidential elections starting from the announcement of the nominations and until the announcement of election results. 7- The restructuring of the state media to reflect the will of the people – not the ruling power – and cleanse it of corruption. 8- The release of all prisoners of conscience and re-trial of civilians who have been sentenced before military tribunals.
