KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian tourism officials have confirmed to Bikyamasr.com that there has been no flood of returning Malaysians from Thailand following the recent bombing in the southern part of that country. “Surprisingly, we have not seen any abnormalities or an increase in returns from southern Thailand,” a top tourism official told Bikyamasr.com on Tuesday. Local reports also supported this claim, reporting that there had been no increase in train tickets to return home from Hat Yai – the site of the bombing attack that killed at least 14 people, including one Malaysian – in the south of Thailand. 27 Malaysians were also injured in the blast. Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) corporate communications senior manager, Mohd Fazil Ismail said the bomb incident had not affected the sale of train tickets to southern Thailand although the Malaysian government had advised its citizens not to visit the place for the time being. He told Bernama news agency that trains to Hat Yai were also operating on schedule. “So far, we have also not received any directive from the Foreign Ministry to cancel our trips to Hat Yai, while the Thai authorities have assured the safety of KTM trains into southern Thailand,” he added.. KTMB sells an average of 20 tickets to Hat Yai daily and the number rises to 120 daily during the holiday season
