KUALA LUMPUR: A new set of data released by the Malaysian Digital Association (MDA), revealed that in Malaysia, The Star Online remains the country's top online news source. More Malaysians go to The Star for their news, the report said, putting it number 9 overall in all portals in the Southeast Asian country. It is ahead of other news portals such as Malaysiakini.com (No.11), themalaysianinsider.com (No.23), and the online versions of Harian Metro (No.15), Utusan Malaysia (No.16) and Kosmo! (No.28). The top five in this combined list are all familiar names facebook.com, google.com.my, local online marketplace Mudah.my, yahoo.com and youtube.com. Among the 30 most popular local websites, The Star Online comes in at No. 2, behind Mudah.my. The rest of the top five local websites are Mylaunchpad.com.my, Malaysiakini.com and maybank2u.com.my. The latest rankings are based on data for January this year, in which 25.3 million unique browsers were collected on websites across all categories in Malaysia. The number of unique browsers is 4.4 percent more than in the previous month.
