JAKARTA: Malaysians are excited over the first-ever official visit of United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to the country. The UN chief arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday for a two-day visit with the goal of strengthening cooperation between the Southeast Asian country and the United Nations. “It is really cool because we haven't had a UN chief come to Malaysia in a long time and I don't even remember if [former UN Secretary General Kofi] Annan came,” one Malaysian university student told Bikyamasr.com in Jakarta. Ban is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Abdul Razak on Thursday, to discuss regional and international concerns of mutual interest, including the problems in the Middle East. Ban also plans to visit the Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Center in Port Dickson, in the state of Negri Sembilan, about 70 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur. Ban is on the second leg of a four-nation tour that started in Indonesia. He was also scheduled to visit Singapore and his home country South Korea.
