Philippines man shoots dead daughter while cleaning gun

A man in the southern Philippines shot and killed his 8-year-old daughter while he was cleaning his 45-caliber pistol, police said on Saturday.
The father was detained while authorities prepared charges against him, police said.
“It is unfortunate that his happens in today's world with so much information and reports of such deaths, but we still have to charge him,” a police officer in the capital Manila told Bikyamasr.com via telephone.
The shooting occurred Thursday evening while he was cleaning his pistol in their home in the southern city of Butuan.
The young girl was shot in the chest and died while being treated at a local hospital.
