An 18-hour fire in a shopping mall in the Philippine capital has injured 16 firefighters, officials said Saturday. The fire broke out Friday evening at the four-storey Ever Gotesco Grand Central Mall in the Manila suburban city of Caloocan and raged through the night. Nine members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and seven volunteer firefighters were injured in the effort to douse the blaze, according to the Red Cross. Investigators have yet to determined the cause of the fire, which began in a shoe store on the ground floor of the 30-year-old building. The fire has already seen activists and business people in the country demand the government bolster the country's infrastructure, as numerous incidents such as this one in recent months has shown the country needs to put effort into its construction sector.
