LOS ANGELES (dpa) – A distraught woman in southern California has committed suicide by slashing her own neck with a chainsaw, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday. The newspaper quoted police as saying that they had discovered the middle-aged woman in her home in the town of Palms after being alerted by her sister. “Two sisters, they share an apartment,” police spokesperson Norma Eisenman was quoted as saying. “The door (to the victim's room) was jammed a little, and the sister was able to see her on the bed with a chainsaw next to her.” Police said the woman may have lain dead for as long as a day before being discovered. They originally considered the case a possible homicide, but were now treating it as suicide after finding what they said was a suicide note.
