Manila (dpa) – A 41-year-old journalist was critically wounded after being shot by unidentified gunmen in the Philippines, police said Monday. Fernan Angeles, a reporter for the Daily Tribune newspaper, suffered six gunshot wounds Sunday evening near his house in suburban Pasig City of Manila. Angeles was in critical condition with bullet fragments still in his body, according to city police commander Senior Superintendent Jessie Cardona. He said police were investigating whether the attack was related to Angeles' work as a beat reporter covering President Benigno Aquino for a newspaper critical of the administration. He was the second journalist to be wounded in an attack in the Philippines since the start of the year. One radio broadcaster has so far been killed in 2012. Last year, five journalists were killed in the Philippines, one of the world's most dangerous countries for reporters, according to international press organizations.
