LAGOS: MTN Ghana, the biggest mobile network in the country has launched two services, vehicle tracking and audio conferencing because of the growing need for vehicular security, said Michael Ikpoki, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana. The Vehicle Tracking is to help individuals and organizations interested in the whereabouts of their vehicles and Audio Conferencing for meetings and conferences without physical presence. He said the tracker costs GHC 315.00 while tracking is charged at GHC 10.00 per month. Ikpoki said upon purchase, tracking devices would be installed immediately at an accredited garage and cus¬tomers would be given a username and password to enable them to log on to the portal (www.trackmaster.com.gh). The portal will inform customers of the speed of their vehicle and its exact location. If the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, they will also get an instant email/SMS and will know if a vehicle enters or leaves a specific area. Ikpoki listed out the challenges as persistent fiber cuts which affected network quality thereby increasing operating expenditure. Emphasizing MTN's visible contributions to the telecommunications sector, Ikpoki added that out of the 10 percent of government revenue contributed by telecoms companies in 2010, MTN contributed 6.9 percent. The company also contributed 1.4 percent of GDP. He said the tracker service is available at the MTN offices at Accra Mall, Osu, Graphic Road, Madina and Tema Community 6.
