LAGOS: ICT experts have called for the incorporation of ICT (Information and communications technology) from the design stage of homes. This issue was tackled at a one-day seminar organized by Hafol Resources Limited with the title, “Intelligent Building: ICT approach to connected real estate”. Some of the questions posed were, is it possible for the air-conditioner in your home to sense when people are getting cold and switch itself off or when they are getting warm and come alive without somebody having to do so? Further, is it possible for the telephone, fire alarm and access control in a building to be interconnected to enable them work harmoniously? Sogbesan who is the CEO of Chace Systems Limited wondered why in this modern age, tenants are allowed to design their own Internet or Wifi. He stated that “breaking the wall each time you want to make a connection makes the building weaker”. Mr Fola Sogbesan, Managing Director of Hafol Resources Limited, said architects must bring in ICT experts into the consultancy team to handle any building or infrastructure project. “It would be lovely that as you are bringing in M&E consultants, you bring in ICT consultants as well. You should not depend on M&E alone, they should also depend on ICT consultants,” he said.
