CAIRO: The UAE and Pakistan signed an agreement in Dubai on Sunday to exchange nationals incarcerated in each other's prisons. Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, signed the agreement for the UAE, while Pakistani Interior Minister Rahman Malik signed his end of the agreement. This will allow convicted nationals in both countries, whose jail terms exceed six months, to serve the remainder of their sentences in their respective nations. Shaikh Saif said the deal comes in line with the directives by the higher leadership to ease burden on societal categories, especially the inmates of the correctional and penal institutions. The Pakistani minister praised efforts by both governments as a step forward towards achieving international criminal justice, while stressing a bilateral interest in enforcing the law and observing human rights and international conventions.
