Saif donates $2m to kids cancer hospital in Egypt

CAIRO: Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has donated $2 million to a children's cancer hospital in Egypt.
Hospital 57357 is a first-of-its-kind in the Middle East, which specializes in cancer treatment of children, said Ahlam Al Touhami, media representative of the hospital.
The idea to establish such a specialized hospital came after 13 children died in 1999 at a cancer institute in Cairo for lack of proper medication. So Dr. Sherif Abul Naga met with Islamic scholar Sheikh Mohammed Metwaly Al-Sharawi and told him of the situation.
Thus the hospital began operations with the donation of Al Sharawi. In 2007, the hospital opened its doors to children from other Arab states.
57357 Hospital comprises about 200 beds, in addition to outpatient clinic, which receives between 500 and 600 children daily. It also houses a nuclear and radiation treatment as well as chemotherapy facilities; blood bank, laboratory for stem cell storage; operation theatres and pharmacy. Close to its premises is a guest house of families of kids to stay.
