CAIRO: Reports are flooding into news sources about a Taliban suicide bomber detonating an explosive device in his car at the airport gates in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. At press time, nine people have been reported killed with another dozen injured. NATO's peacekeeping force, the ISAF, has not reported any deaths in the attack. It is believed this bombing is part of a constellation of nation-wide attacks in retribution for the Qur'an burning incident at Bagram airbase last week Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid is taking credit for the attack, in a press release that has stated “This attack is revenge against those soldiers who burned our glorious Qur'an.” Bikya Masr spoke with an Afghan national who works in aid in development in Kabul. She said the atmosphere in Kabul is “tense” and that “there are no foreigners on the streets.” However, she did say that everyday life for Afghans was moving along—with the courts system, in which she works, functioning as scheduled. The source, who was a young girl at the time of the Soviet invasion, has known nothing but warfare and violence. “This [violence] is nothing new,” she said, displaying a fatigued perspective on the current Qur'an burning protests. “What we are more concerned about now is the [coming] withdrawal of troops. Because without assistance and security we cannot do anything.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/nmZMS Tags: Airport bomb, Jalalabad, Quran Burning Section: East Asia, Latest News, Religion
