LAGOS: At least three policemen were reportedly killed in Nigeria's northeastern city of Kano on Wednesday, witnesses said. The attack bears similarities to other attacks on security by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, but no group has yet to claim responsibility. Five armed gunmen stormed the home of Kano's police chief, killing three officers on the spot. A soldier was also killed, according to the witnesses, speaking to dpa by telephone. Over the past two months, Boko Haram have led a campaign of terror across Nigeria, bombing churches and killing dozens of civilians as they push for an Islamist state. The government of President Goodluck Jonathan has said they are doing all they can to pressure the group to end its violent campaign against civilians. The Islamist group has also called on Christians to leave a number of areas in the country or face violent reprisals.
