LAGOS: Dozens of people have reportedly been injured when a bomb blast rocked the northeastern Nigeria city of Kano on Wednesday morning, witnesses said. Police and the government have not yet confirmed if anyone was killed in the attack, but residents said they heard blasts and gunshots in the early hours of the morning. Wednesday's attack comes one month after the city was hit by explosions that killed 186 people. Responsibility for those blasts was claimed by radical Islamist group Boko Haram. Witness Farida Tahir told dpa that her neighbour's mother collapsed after hearing the blasts. One security official told Bikyamasr.com that they were investigating the incident, but said that it appears Boko Haram “is behind the attack and it has their mark.” Others related their experiences behind the violent attacks that have hit the country in recent months. “(She) collapsed and died at 6 am (0500 GMT) … she lost two of her children in last month's attack and … she suffers from hypertension,” Tahir said. Human rights groups say that more than 400 people have been killed in Nigeria's latest wave of extremist violence. Boko Haram announced earlier this month that it was ready for peace talks, upon the condition that police release a number of its members from custody. Authorities say the sect has begun using increasingly sophisticated technology, suggesting that some of its members may have benefited from advanced training. ** with dpa BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/lnKbT Tags: Blast, Boko Haram, Kano, Nigeria Section: Latest News, West Africa
