CAIRO: Egypt's Mohamed ElBaradei, a leading reformist and former presidential hopeful, reiterated on Saturday, on his Twitter account, his rejection of drafting the constitution prior to the presidential elections, stressing the need to elect an interim president before writing the constitution. He described drafting the constitution before holding presidential elections as “political shallowness and tampering.” ElBaradei said in a tweet that the solution is to elect an interim president before developing the new constitution. ElBaradei suggested on January 27 a roadmap for the country that consists of five steps to start with the election of an interim president by the People's Assembly, then the formation of a Constitutional Assembly, followed by a constitution that defines the form of the system of governance for Egypt and ensures a civil state and rights and freedoms, then the election of the president, whose powers would be clearly defined by the new constitution and ending with the election of a new parliament on the basis of the new constitution, saying, “after a year of confusion, it is time to agree on a course correction.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/Lt1X1 Tags: Constitution, ElBaradei, Elections, featured Section: Egypt, Latest News
