CAIRO: Dr. Mohammed ElBaradei, former director of the International Agency for Atomic Energy Agency and former Egyptian presidential candidate, said on Tuesday that a dialogue between activists, members of Egypt's interim ruling military government, the parliament and the national unity government could be an essential step in building a new Egypt. ElBaradei said in a comment on his personal Twitter account that the drafting of a constitution, ensuring state security and economic recovery, enacting judiciary and media reform, and granting retribution for the martyrs of the revolution are among the most important challenges facing the parliament. It should be noted that ElBaradei withdrew his nomination from the presidential race, saying that he cannot run amid a continued absence of democratic mechanisms. He has come forward to say that he will participate in demonstrations and marches on Wednesday January 25. He also said that one of the priorities of the newly elected parliament should be the abolition of all repressive laws, even before the drafting of a new constitution. He hinted at his willingness to act as the head of a national council for the revolution that would serve as the speaker of the revolutionary forces when handling governmental talks.
