CAIRO: Thirty-six Egyptian political movements and youth coalitions declared on Saturday an initiative to end military rule and return the army to its barracks immediately. The groups announced organizing a million man march for Tuesday afternoon and march towards the newly elected People's Assembly to demonstrate their demands of the initiative to the parliament. The movements confirmed the reports on a safe exit for the military junta from power, and stressed that the only solution is “to transfer power to civilians, and that the real threat to the revolution today is to draft the first constitution of the country after the revolution under the rule of the military,” which is, according to them, “seeking for the issuance of the Constitution, which can secure its interests (and its tremendous economic empire, looted from the budget of the country for decades), and grants it impunity from accountability.” The joint statement added that a “threat to the revolution is holding presidential elections supervised by the military council, which can through the state media distort the candidates and praise others, aiming to mislead the masses.” They demanded the formation of an immediate commission by members of the people to be “competent in all matters and procedures required for presidential elections, and opening the doors for nomination for presidency, no later than February 11, 2012, and elections to be held within 60 days. They also demanded the formation of a committee of Egyptian civil society organizations and the revolutionaries, to participate in the supervision of the presidential election and to be granted full judicial supervision.
