CAIRO: As over one hundred thousand Egyptians pack into Cairo's Tahrir Square on Wednesday, the military junta ruling the country again said it would return to their barracks on June 30. The statement from the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) comes as the predominant voice in Tahrir is one of anti-military sentiment and anger at their remaining in power. But the SCAF said it had a “partnership” with the January 25 revolution and said it was part of the success of the revolution in “the elimination of injustice and oppression.” It added that the armed forces “makes the Egyptian people proud,” and would reveal secrets about the revolution and the transition period in the near future. The SCAF said in statements on its official Facebook page that “we emphasize that the armed forces will return to their barracks on June 30 following the election of the President of the Republic.” The statement added, “And today, after a full year, the emergency law has been abolished, which has been roosting on the hearts of the Egyptians for many years, a Parliament of the revolution was elected and took over the legislative authority, and the Shura Council, Presidential elections will be held soon simultaneously with the drafting of a new constitution, until we leave power and return to our barracks.” BM ShortURL: http://goo.gl/9bfQc Tags: Barracks, featured, Protests, SCAF, Tahrir Section: Egypt, Latest News
