Egypt's Revolutionary Youth issue statement on way forward, ending military rule

CAIRO: A few hours before demonstrations on the anniversary of the January 25 revolution a large number of revolutionary forces, led by the coalition of the youth of the revolution, called on the Egyptian people, and the newly elected People`s Assembly to bear the responsibility concerning the immediate transfer of power to a civilian authority that oversees the legitimacy of the constitution and the election of a president.
“To the masses of the Egyptian people and its legitimate representatives, in light of a full year of failure, it is clear that the junta has not achieved the goals of the revolution, thousands of martyrs and tens of thousands of injured and wounded, sacrificed in order to achieve these goals, and the failure of the administration of the country was clearly evident in the economy, which worsened the living conditions and prices rose like crazy, and gas, gasoline, and diesel disappeared, foreign reserves fell to its lowest level, and the continuous failure of security performance and political performance to the degree of fueling the conflict, and discord in the Egyptian street,” a statement from the Revolutionary Youths said.
The statement continued: “Based on this failure in the performance of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, and the lack of confidence in its intentions during the drafting of the Constitution, and presidential elections, we call upon the Egyptian people, and its elected parliament to assume responsibilities of the following issues:
1 – Transfer of power.
(A) Immediately hand over power to a civilian authority to oversee the legitimacy of the constitution, the election of a president.
(B) Not to grant exceptional position or constitutional authority to the military establishment, or discriminatory powers outside the internationally recognized for being an institution of the civil state, and subject to it.
(C) Repeal Article (28) of the Constitutional Declaration, which gives the Administrative Commission that supervises the presidential elections absolute powers, and cannot be challenged before the competent authority in the case of defective procedures, or fraud in the electoral process.
2 – A just retribution to the martyrs
(A) The need to try Mubarak and the figures of his former regime and his aides, in special courts on charges of treason to subvert the political life for 30 years of forgery, issuing hereditary constitution as well as repression, torture, destruction of health and murder.
(B) A serious and immediate investigation and the prosecution of those who committed murder, repression, abuse, torture and violations of people's rights during the incidents of March 9, April 8, Mokattam, Balloon Theater, Abbasiya, the Israeli Embassy, Maspero, Mohamed Mahmoud Street, the Cabinet, including military, police and thugs working for them, including the leaders issued instructions to do so.
3 – The Constitution.
(A) To determine standards for the drafting of a balanced constitution formed by all political movements, and intellectuals, in addition to the trade unions, labor unions, peasants, and student and cultural and legal figures. And taking real and effective representation of women and Copts, and Nubia, and Sinai Bedouins in consideration to ensure an effective participation for them, and acceptance of all spectra of this new Constitution.
(B) Emphasis on the civil state, and modern democracy, and a guarantee not to circumvent the principles of democracy.
(C) To ensure freedoms and human rights, in absolute and unconditional form that does not allow for any political spectrum to manipulate in the name of the organization of this freedom.
4 – Social Justice.
(A) Setting a minimum, and a maximum wage, for all workers in state institutions, including the military.
(B) Issuance of a law guaranteeing comprehensive health insurance for all citizens.
5 – The rights to express opinion
(A) The complete cessation of military trials, and re-try all of the court rulings issued against him before the courts.
(B) The total and the immediate abolition, of the state of emergency.
(C) Repeal laws that allow opening fire on the demonstrators.
(D) The full cleansing and restructuring of the Ministry of the Interior, and the appointment of a judge, a human rights activist as the Minister of interior, and the prevention of the ministry, or its security services to deal with political affairs, or intervene in the work of institutions.
6 – The judiciary.
(A) Pass a law on judicial independence, and activating the role of the Supreme Judicial Council.
(B) Develop mechanisms to isolate the Attorney General in the framework of restructuring the judicial system.
7 – The media.
(A) The purging of media institutions, and restructure the official media.
(B) The abolition of the Ministry of Information to become media and press organizations under the supervision of an independent body financially and administratively, to ensure fairness.
(C) The abolition of the Supreme Council of the Press “censorship of the press,” and the issuance of a law guaranteeing freedom of the press and media.
We therefore call upon the Egyptian people to participate in the great marches to all areas of liberalization in Egypt to complete the demands of the revolution.
Victory to the revolution and the glory to the martyrs and the pride to Egypt
The revolution continues.
