Egypt, UNECA ink deal for IT projects
Published in Bikya Masr on 24 - 01 - 2012

CAIRO: Egypt and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) have signed an agreement to boost and maintain cooperation on information and technology projects in Egypt and across the region.
Communications and IT Minister Mohamed Salem and the Executive President of the UNECA Abdoulie Janneh signed the memorandum of understanding over the weekend and aims to boost IT in Egypt in the transitional period and across North and East Africa.
Under the MoU, the two sides will promote cooperation in a number of regional projects that will be adopted or implemented by Egypt, including participation in international forums and organizing international events in the field of communications and IT, the ministry said.
During the meeting, Salem reviewed the Egyptian experiment and its plan in the communications and IT field from the period between 2011 and until 2015.
Salem said that the signed agreement “aims to develop human resources in a range of fields related to the IT and communications sectors.”
He stressed that that his ministry “has outlined a strategy to ensure that the country restores its prestige in the African continent.”
The new deal has been met with optimism here in Cairo, where IT and technological advances are being sought by the country for the immediate future. IT expert with CI Capital Yussif Radwan told Bikyamasr.com that “with this new agreement, we should start to see the groundwork for better IT functionality in Egypt and between the country and other African nations.”
