LAGOS: Chinese telecom provider Huawei announced that it would deploy a new mobile network for Nigeria's Zodafones with a new TDD variant of LTE. The move is to help boost telecom operations in Abuja and surrounding areas of the capital. The Chinese vendor said in a statement that it would roll out a network, based on its SingleRAN LTE TDD solution, and will be western Africa's first commercial TD-LTE network. A. Aliyu, president of Zodafones, described the project as “a milestone for mobile broadband development in western Africa,” noting that that Huawei's technology, experience and fast delivery will allow his company “to achieve a strong market position.” Zodafones offers fixed wireless voice and data services in the 3.5G band in Nigeria. “The new network will help boost Nigeria's telecommunications infrastructure and will ensure continued investment from Huawei in our growing sector,” IT analyst and former marketing consultant for MTN in West Africa Michael Williams told Bikyamasr.com.
