CAIRO: Egypt's Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of Egypt's interim ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) arrived in Libya on Monday in his first international visit since taking over power from the deposed regime of former President Hosni Mubarak last February. Tantawi, seeking to “open a new page with Libya,” plans t hold talks with Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the head of Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) in order to bolster ties between the two neighboring nations. “The visit is aimed at finding new horizons for cooperation and for contributing to the reconstruction of Libya,” announced an Egyptian military official. Talks between Egypt and the NTC will focus mainly on Egypt's role in infrastructure and redevelopment projects in Libya, after the state was wracked by uprisings that deposed former leader Muammar Ghaddafi. The leaders will discuss Egypt's role in assisting Libya to develop rebuild infrastructure after the state was ravaged by an eight-month armed revolt against the late Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi. They will also discuss Libyan investments in Egypt, and the fate of Egyptian workers in Libya, many of who were jailed during the uprisings. The two sides are expected to sign a series of protocols and agreements once they reach the terms of their cooperative efforts. “They will also discuss the possibility of extraditing some members of the Gaddafi regime (staying in Egypt),” NTC representative Abdel Hafez Ghuqa told Egypt's semi-official Al-Ahram newspaper. Several ministers accompanied Tantawi on the trip, including the ministers of electricity, tourism, planning and labor.
