CAIRO: The Egyptian government dismissed allegations that the United States has put pressure on Arab Countries to end their financial aid to the country. Qatar, for its part, has said it remains committed to assisting Egypt in its reconstruction period. Fayza Abul Naga, the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, said she was not aware of the rumors being spread concerning US pressure on Arab countries not to provide financial assistance to Egypt. She said in a statement, “the Egyptian government does not pay attention to these rumors, or believe that Arab countries can give in to such pressures, that if there was pressure by any party in the first place.” Abul Naga stressed that Egypt has received financial packages that have already announced by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which amount to $500 million that have already been received by the State Treasury. For its part, the Qatari government denied it has been under pressure from Washington to freeze financial assistance to Egypt over the Egyptian military's use of force against protesters. “Such allegations are false and lack credibility,” Saleh al-Buainain, Qatar's ambassador to Egypt said. He added that his country would remain committed to its pledge to provide the Egyptian government with aid, and that it has already granted Cairo around $500 million. “We were among the first states to offer support to Egypt and we are keen on its stability. We are also keen on enhancing bilateral relations,” he said. This comes after the US Embassy in Egypt denied reports that said Washington was urging Arab countries to end financial assistance to Egypt. The embassy, in a statement on Tuesday, said there was “no truth” to previous reports that said the American administration was pushing Arab nations to end funding Egypt's military junta. “To the contrary, we are continuing to engage other international partners to look for ways to support Egypt during this transitional period,” it added. Over the past few days, a number of reports have claimed Washington was pushing its Arab allies to end funding for the military government of Egypt after it had violently cracked down on protesters in the country over the past few months.
